I've been watching Eurovision since about 1985... and over that time, more people in Australia have become aware of it, and are following it. So much so that last year I heard the winner on the television and radio news. This year I've made a conscious effort to not listen to any news today, so that the surprise is intact, as we have a delayed telecast starting in just over 1 hour (7.30pm Sydney time). I spoke to a guy friend on the phone today. I switched him on to Eurovision about 4 years ago. He loves all the hot European chicks. He wanted to watch it over the phone together, but the last time I did that I didn't feel like I experienced it, so I've told him I won't be answering the phone tonight. Not to mention the fact that I've let the batteries in the cordless run down, so I would have to take the call on the speakerphone in the bedroom where I don't have a tv.
I don't have a favourite, however I prefer dance or heavy rock numbers to power ballads with interpretive dance.
The only bad news is that I realised last night that it will clash with Dr Who, and I haven't figured out how to set the videorecorder through the set top box. I guess that Dr Who will be shown again on tv at some time.
