Last week I bought some trousers at a department store, Myer. They were supposed to be 40% off on sale. I was having one of those days when I couldn't think straight, and instead of thinking about how much they would cost at the reduced price, I just asked the elderly shop assisant what the reduced price would be. Anyway, to cut the long story short, she overcharged me, and I didn't notice it at the time. By the time I'd gotten home and done the math (thanks to calculator on phone). I'd been over charged by about $10. Which is worth following up.
I called the head office on Monday, and asked whether I had to go back to the original store, or I could just go to any of their stores. I was told I could go to any store, but perhaps I could get a credit if I spoke to the store on the phone. She put me through to the store where I bought the trousers, and I spoke to a woman, who said I would have to come into the shop to resolve it. As I had a meeting in the same suburb on Wednesday, I popped back into the store afterwards. The shop woman I spoke to didn't take my story at face value. She said she had to check with her manager, and while she was on the phone asked if I could wait around for 5-10 minutes until the manager found the flyer with the sales prices on them, and then came down to the sales floor...I said yes. Of course, once she got off the phone, she said the manager would be 10-15 minutes. My back has been playing up, so I was a bit annoyed at having to wait around, but I though it was worth it for $10. I had a look at some clothes, went to the bathroom, came back around 10 minutes later, and the manager still wasn't there. I said I couldn't wait any further (my back was killing me), but she said if I had the flyer I could take it into any store.
I found and printed the flyer off, and took it into another store today...and the sales assistant told me I had to go back to the original store, and was rude to me. I had all the evidence, the tag, flyer and receipt. At that point I'd had enough, and I yelled at her. She said how did she know what I was talking about, and why hadn't I bought the trousers with me (I had the tag). I said 'because the trousers are fucking heavy'. Stupid woman. She called her manager, and then took me over to see the manager, but she had an attitude problem. She was rude on the way to the manage, and suggested that I shouldn't have come in on a Saturday because they were busy. I had already explained that I'd spoken with head office, and tried to resolve at the other store, so I wasn't very impressed by her at this point.
I then had to argue with the manager for some time before she finally changed her mind and gave me the refund. Moral of the story - if you have an elderly shop assistant, make sure she charges you correctly at the time!!!
