I still hate Microsoft

I did eventually manage to get XP loaded on my computer with a minimal set of drivers. The hard drive driver and the wireless driver. The graphics driver doesn't exist. So everything on my screen is smushed, since its a wide screen defaulting to 1024x780 or whatever the standard is. Neither do most of the other drivers; I guess Sony decided no one needed to run XP on this laptop, so only the Vista drivers exist (unless it's a generic enough hardware piece). I tried to download Windows 7, and eventually figured out that the reason I was getting an infinite dotted green loading circle was because I wasn't using IE. Why couldn't they just just pop up a message like everyone else and say unsupported browser? Since I was lacking a decent internet connection I gave up on that direction, since by that point I had matlab running.

So I ended up with about 5 days to run the datasets, write the paper, have my advisor look it over, and submit it to the conference. I did actually manage to finish, and submit the paper yesterday on the deadline. Only to wake up this morning and find out the deadline is extended to Aug 10.

matlab, computer, the someday phd
