Curiosity planted the seed and thought provided the sunlight, and here I find myself with a list of questions that might otherwise go unanswered. It strikes me that I know very little about any one of you on a personal, opinionated level, and that such a situation can probably be said to be true of many throughout the station.
I’d like to ask

[ yes she read through that all after listening but... what does any of this have to do with collecting opinions?
watch her be boggled at the idea. ]
What's the purpose behind learning a variety of preferences about people on the ship? When you compile it, that is. To what ends?
[ so baffled why do you do this? ]

As refugees, it would be pleasant if we all felt we could relate to or rely on each other to some vague extent - even if it's only by so much as acting as a friendly face to one another. At the most basic level, all you really need in order to feel comfortable around another is some small understanding of their likes, dislikes and opinions; it's more personal to ask inane questions such as these than to delve into deeper issues.
As for the compilation, if nothing else it will act as a vague impression of the mood and preferences of all of us as a whole. It might allow us a greater understanding of the things we have in common, even if it is something akin to an average.
[Why yes, he had spent a while prior to setting up this good ol' public survey concocting a useful cover story to help diguise his quest for any information that might help him come up with various succesful fundrasing events. What of it.]

on the other hand... Sakura doesn't find any of that to be expressly true for her, but. She'd be hard pressed to tell you the answers to those questions among most her friends. (Foods with Naruto and Sasuke? She has at least one. Color? Can guess. Anything on Kakashi... well, he likes softcore porn?)fdrc ]
And to you, this serves that purpose?
... Good luck, in that case. I don't really find that all those questions make sense, let alone that their answers would help me to relate to others, but that's me.
[ and maybe my entire profession but hey; she at least offers up a smile, since the questions were all honest, and out of curiosity. ]

[She looks like she's typing up some answers on the Guide, but then...]
... What's a zodiac sign?

Usually, this then goes to act as the basis of horoscopes, and although such things are generally useless they can often give some small amount of amusement; or often comfort for some.
If you'd tell me your date of birth, I'd be happy to calculate what your zodiac sign would have been, had you been on my planet. [tl;dr: d.o.b please]

Ah. I'm afraid I forgot to take into account the difference in lunar cycles between planets. The Zodiac only work in correlation with with a twelve month cycle of 365 days total.
I could possibly give you a rough estimate of your Chinese zodiac, however, if you supply me with the year of your birth? [Sure it won't be at all accurate or even relatable due to planetary differences but hey. At least it's do-able, to some extent. ...if the number's impossible? He'll make it up.]

[had quite a bit of fun reading all these Aerith, goddamn... so he's going to give some brief, equally amused, responses]
6) Relate that question to curiosity, I'd little control over the words that left my hand.
14) Again; the blame lies with curiosity.
18) The consellation on the ecliptic, in my world (I apologise, I forgot to factor in the irrelevance of this question for those who did not originate on my planet, but I shall leave it anyway - curiosity strikes again, you see) which corresponds with the date of your birth. I could calculate what yours might have been for you, if you'd like to know.
I did, and I certainly appreciate your input.

I was born on February 7th... but what's interesting about constellations?

Your zodiac, in which case, is Aquarius. The notion that your life might be defined by the constellation under which you were born is ludicrous enough to be worth it's own novelty question, in my opinion.
