[Urahara is chilling on the sofa reading a large book with a big goofy grin, and he's absolutely enthralled by it.]

Did you know that the term 'dinosaur' was coined in 1842 by an English palaeontologist called Richard Owen? It means 'terrible, powerful, wondrous lizard' and is derived from the Greek words deinos and sauros. And that the first ( Read more... )

[doopdedo, emerging from the kitchen and wandering into this here living space about now with a tray loaded with several cups of tea]

[though he only catches that last part as he approaches the sofa /o/]

A bit large for a pet, isn't that...?

[ttly offering you one of these cups, btw]

[Ooh tea, how lovely~]

[He shifts the book, himself and the cat over on the sofa to make room for him to join him.

I am quite certain the ship is large enough to accommodate one.

[Takes a teacup with a smile of thanks, and Shaolin prowls over to have a look at the delicious tea.]

I guess in the end it's a matter of where one would keep it, that's true...

[Oh why thank you~ He's just doing to settle down in that nicely provided space and set the tray down on that table in front of the sofa, before helping himself with another cup off of it.]

[He absently reaches out to pet Shaolin as she approaches, amiably enough]

Still, I'm not entirely sure what one would do with a pet like that. As a sort of...bodyguard, perhaps? [blinking thoughtfully at the picture in that textbook]

[Shaolin butts her head against his hand and starts purring at the attention.]

It would be fascinating to see if they had the mental capacity to be trained as a bodyguard, wouldn't it? I was thinking I would ride it actually.

[He reaches out for a cup himself, and has to gently nudge Shaolin away from his tea. She's a big tea drinker, but this is a little hot for kitties.]

[he casts the cat a smile and scratches her behind the ears, hopefully distracting her from the presence of tea tiems for the moment]

Ah, it would certainly be a creature for riding, it's true. And I imagine it could be quite fearsome in some situations. Is it an heribvore or a carnivore?

[He blows on his tea before taking a sip.]

Ah, despite the sharp teeth and claws it has, the Lufengosaurus actually is thought to have been a herbivore, or omnivorous at a push. It shares some characteristics with the Iguanadon. So he only looks vicious.

[Shaolin tries to clamber onto Ukitake's lap.]

'Iguena--'...what now?

[Gently helps her along with a pat on her back, and then lets her settle in as she will over the folds of his kimono, absently stroking her head]

[Leafs through his book and opens it at the relevant page, displaying an Iguanadon.]

It's a herbivorous species of bipedal, ornithopod dinosaur, dating from the Kimmeridgian age of the Late Jurassic Period to the Cenomanian age of the Late Cretaceous Period.

[My science, Ukitake, let me show you it.]

[but wait that wouldn't apply anyway, would it?]

Oh I was fanatical about them as a boy. They're amazing, they walked the earth before even Yama-jii was born. I think.

There is indeed a pretty impressive air to that, when you put it that way. You never can be certain...

[smiles in some amusement, and takes another sip of his tea]

I guess I might have been too, if I had been a child at such a time. There was no word or tell of any such things as 'dinosaurs' in that time, though...
