I'm concerned about the Guide's explanation of this world's God... Surely a deity wouldn't willingly cause harm and strife to their worshipers, would they?

[There's a small pause as the water goddess contemplates.]I wonder if one can meet this God, and speak with them. The inhabitants of this planet must not enjoy suffering the tribulations the ( Read more... )

Why wouldn't they? They're a god. They can do whatever they want.

But a god should hold some responsibility over keeping their worshipers happy, shouldn't they?

Not necessarily. Who says that all gods have to be benevolent?

I see no benefit in being malevolent to my own believers. It bothers me to see this god be so cruel to the inhabitants of this world.

This world's God? [ hm. ] What are they doing...? [ he doesn't... look at the explanations much. ]

I'm not sure if you can go and meet this 'God', but... have you tried asking someone on the planet?

From what the Guide says, this world's God is rather cruel to its inhabitants. It likes to make them suffer for their own enjoyment.

I haven't gone to visit the planet yet, but I will try to ask one of its inhabitants when I do.

I see. I wonder why the God is that way. [ a beat. ] As far as I've heard, all Gods make the people suffer at some point. Even the ones I was taught to worship as a kid -- Amaterasu, Izanagi, Susano-o, and Tsukuyomi -- have made the people suffer.

[ shaking his head as if it's a damn shame (because it is- he doesn't want to believe in a God who can only hurt others). ]

When you go down, do me a favor and be careful. If the God is like what the Guide says, then you'll have to watch out. I don't want you to get hurt.

[ maybe he should just go with her lsakvjgoie aaa what is his life (bah) ]

[Nuregami's tongue flicks out at the mention of her mother making people suffer, but... well, for a while, the people of Nippon didn't trust Amaterasu, and she knew that Amaterasu was fierce when she was angry... Though, perhaps the Amaterasu from Suzaku's world was different from Nippon?]

[But she nods to him.]

I promise that I will do my best to remain safe.

Y-yeah, it is kind of disconcerting, isn't it?

Yes, it is... I just find it to be rather irresponsible.

Maybe you can convince them to do otherwise?

I hope so. To see that this world's inhabitants must suffer under their deity just for their amusement... it saddens me.

Not all gods operate the way the kami do, dear. They do not nurture faith, but rather force it through cruelty...

But why would they wish to force faith from their subjects? [The very idea seems rather harsh to her...]

Because with faith, they gain more power.

Of course, that is true. But... if you force their faith, then you will never gain their trust, or see their genuine praise when their prayers are answered.

How would one even speak with God?

I am not sure. I'm wondering if I could find a way to do so.

The only way I know of is prayer, and even then you get no answer.

You do not believe that gods do not listen to prayers?
