Scattered elsewhere across the desk were a pile of books, a small container of other writing utensils, a soccer ball, a stray spell card, some loose paper... one of these things does not belong here ( Read more... )

An indestructible soccer ball traveling at high speeds from the way the game is played in Gensokyo... it can cause problems.

Ooh. [Something that's immune to everything... that's kind of interesting.]

What's a soccer ball for?

I guess you weren't present for those events...

This ball is designed to be a part of a game of soccer, hence the name. It was popular in Gensokyo for a time.

It's a simple concept. There's a large field, with a goal at either end.

[Pachy draws a quick sketch of the field to illustrate it.]

People are split into two teams, and each team has to get the ball into the goal on the other side.

The catch is that you cannot carry the ball or use your hands to do so. Though, in Gensokyo, spell cards are usually fair game, since the ball won't be destroyed by them.

I'm afraid I can't share your enthusiasm. This ball has caused more trouble than its worth...

Really? [And now he likes it more.]

But it sounds like it's got some really powerful magic in it...

It might be, but I can't detect any. It's inert to anything and everything, save for just hitting it.
