Stuff, it happens

I really have no excuses, other than my eternal flightiness and inability to keep anything resembling a journal for an extended period of time. I've always liked the idea, but the only thing that's ever come of it is half a dozen mostly empty paper diaries and a crapload of random bits and pieces scattered through the My Documents folder on my laptop. And this LJ, of course, along with its long abandoned predecessor.

No excuses, no excuses.

On an entirely different note, I am now on a Rurouni Kenshin binge, so if I appear to be more self-effacing than usual, that's probably why. I'm working on rewriting my two fanfics from way back when, one of which is essentially done and ready to be uploaded, the other still needs some work in the form of recipe-testing and troubleshooting. I should have known that I can't do anything simply, which is how I ended up inventing a cake recipe which refuses to produce edible cake (although I ate it anyway, so as not to waste it), and finally giving up and having Kenshin and Yahiko make sponge cake for Kaoru's birthday instead of trying to mess around with baking soda and sour milk.

While troubleshooting the sponge cake recipe this evening, I decided to forgoe the electric beater and beat the egg whites by hand, as a sort of endurance exercise. This reminded me of my da's statement that beating egg whites by hand is a good fencing exercise, which in turn got me to thinking that maybe Kenshin would also consider it useful, being a swordsman. Then I remembered that Kenshin's swordsmanship is kendo-based, and as such may or may not have the same muscle movements as European fencing, and thus the wrist stuff that's important in European fencing may be completely useless in kendo. So if anybody reads this who knows more than I do about kendo, please let me know if I'm making sense or not. Either way, I'm glad that I'm ambidextrous, or my arm and wrist would be even more sore.

Should probably be going to bed soonish, as soon as I finish this episode. Saito's facing off with Usui, and has just informed Usui that he's figured out exactly why Usui keeps saying that he wants to kill Shishio, meanwhile Kenshin and Sano have gone on ahead with Yumi to find Shishio, even though Kenshin has said that he doesn't want to kill him. It's all rather complicated.
