Jared's dead. And it's my fault; I knew he'd had one too many, shoulda taken his keys. Nobody says a word but my heart is splitting my chest. I'm at the viewing; I need to say this.
"...I screwed up. And for that, I'm sorry--"
I lose it, screaming my grief to Jay's body.
"Cut!" Kim Manners' voice. "Check the gate!"
I collapse, barely aware of scattered applause from stagehands. All I feel are those big warm hands on my shoulders, the voice that reminds me we're just pretending. "Dude, that was awesome," Jared says softly. "You fucking nailed it."
