Irises
I know I'm posting quite a bit here lately, but there's just so much going on in the garden this time of year, you know? Can't help myself...
Probably my all-around favorite perennial. Love the rich color, the transitional purple-to-white pattern on the petals and most of all the compelling structure; the blossoms are just so "3-dimensional" (even while the foliage is 2D)! I got to enjoy these for about 30 seconds while on my way to the garage to leave for work, and the sun was coming in low and golden, limning the sword-like leaves...
