treeeees!!

So my city if fixing our terrible sidewalks, which is a good thing, but in doing so has really damaged a number of trees and roots on our street.  I wanted to see what you thought of our tree (a huge maple on the easement in front of our house).  It already had some dead branches, but I really don't want to lose it.  Do you think it'll be ok?  Is there anything I should do to the large sections where the bark has been taken off?
