Sooooooooo excited!  Just received an order of 3 Lady Slippers from Hillside Nursery.  I have been trying to get these for a few years but was always too late.  They are on the endangered plant list here in Massachusetts and cannot be taken from the wild.  Hillside propagates them at their nursery and only offers so many each season for sale ( Read more... )

Hello fellow Masachusetts person! I am so glad that we are finally getting a bit of spring-ish weather.

I got my peas-in-a-pot and potato grower a couple of weeks ago and I am so excited to try them out on my city balcony.

How big is your garden?

It's about 1/4 acre, but only flowers, shrubs, etc. I'm surrounded by hemlocks so growing veggies is out of the question. I will pot up some tomatoes but only out of habit. I seldom get any good ones. lol

Good luck! I bought a Kentucky ladyslipper orchid last summer at a garden show (from a very good reputable dealer) and he gave me a really good little handmade booklet of how to care for it. I was a little worried I'd kill the poor thing but Spring is pretty firmly here and it appears to be coming back quite happily. I'm super excited.

Are you in Kentucky? I didn't realize they grew so far south!

No I'm in England, but I grew up in Kentucky. Lady slippers grow anywhere far enough south to get a good cold winter freeze. I think there are types of native lady's slipper hardy orchids in most of the US and Canada.

Kentucky is like another country to me. I always think of it as the "south", so no winter freezes. Learn something new everyday.

Do you have an "English Garden"? You must be able to grow Lady Slippers there?

you can always put your zone in the tags (along with other information)

I don't know what that means, lololol. What is a tag?

When you put the text of your entry/post in the composition box, at the bottom (just like making an entry for your journal) there are little boxes/windows for "mood" and "tags." The "tags" box allows you more room (horizontally.)

Lady slippers are on my wish list, but I'm still hardscaping and I have to wait a few years before I have a place I can plant them. Please keep us posted!

As soon as I see a bud, I'll be all over it!
