Hello gardeners! I've been absent from gardening for a while because of lack of time and space for a proper garden. But in May my boyfriend and I bought our first house! Now we have our own yard to do with what we please!
I have a question specifically today about re-locating a small mulberry sapling that is in our backyard. The neighbors have a large mulberry tree that hangs over the fence a little into our yard. A small sapling has started to grow on our side of the fence. It is growing right next to the fence and I want to replant it so that the poor thing won't grow around the wire fence. What is the right way to go about this? When would be a good time to transplant a tree? It is only about as tall as I am, around 5 feet. The trunk is only about 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Any help would be appreciated, I love mulberries and I want to see this tree thrive!
Edit: I should say that I am in zone 4.
