New job at a greenhouse and looking for book suggestions

Mar 18, 2011 21:59

I just got a job in a greenhouse!!!!!! Go me!! :)

However, my employer said she doesn't train us a lot and expects us to educate ourselves as much as possible. So, I come looking for suggestions on some books.

I most likely need text book quality books. I already have many gardening books, but they're a bit fluffy. I will be dealing with primarily bedding plants, of which I have nearly no experience. I also need to be able to answer basic questions about vegetables and herbs.

If anyone studied plants in school or for fun, what textbooks would you recommend? I need general care, propagation and disease identification and control. Or just really thorough books that preferably have color photos of things I would need to able to identify at my job.

Also, if anyone has experience working in a commercial greenhouse what was it like? What would you suggest I learn to prepare myself. I do plan to look into a master gardener program.

Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to this job and want to do well.
