So I have three okra plants and they're about waist height right now. I'ts neat watching them grow since I have never seen an okra plant before, since the little okras point up! (also neat watching the peppers that do this too)
But anyway some were getting big and almost okra-shaped (still kind of soft and rounded though) but then they fell off! We had a huge crazy monsoon the other night that knocked branches off of my big trees and wreaked havoc on the garden, but the okra had not fallen off yet. I guess it's possible the wind knocked it loose and then they finally plopped off by themselves. Or is this an issue okra has and I need to treat it with some compost or something?
Also, I have a pumpkin plant that is sprawling EVERYWHERE, but as of yet it's still made ZERO, NO fruit. Same with my cantelope and one of the watermelon plants (though the other one has one watermelon on it, so cute, they are bushy baby variety). I'm not sure when they should start growing but since one plant has a melon already I assumed the other three should be fruiting as well.
I'm planning a pumpkin carving party and food harvest (like my own little harvest moon party with my friends) later this year and I'm wondering when I should hold it because the pumpkins need to be ready by then. I know I will have plenty of food to harvest up until the end of the season but I have no idea when pumpkins are done, I know I start seeing them in supermarkets like a month before Halloween.
AND when are butternut squashes supposed to fruit? I have tons of crookneck, spaghetti squash, cucumbers and zucchini but no damn butternuts yet. That area of the garden is a crowded mess though, they probably aren't getting enough sun but they look big and healthy.
