Finding average "Frost/Freeze" dates for your area

Jan 06, 2010 15:21

We're all gearing up for this season's or this year's plantings, and I've noticed that several folks have asked questions to which answers include "after danger of frost has passed" or "X weeks before last frost," depending.
I know this is *always* something like, "Elm street?  Sure, that's two stops before mine; watch and see where I leave the bus," and if you're brand new to gardening it can  be perplexing.

This nifty article:

...includes a link to this site:
http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/climatenormals/climatenormals.pl?directive=prod_select2&prodtype=CLIM2001&subrnum%20to%20Freeze/Frost%20Data%20from%20the%20U.S.%20Climate%20Normals

(you may have to cut and paste; sorry, but I am a real techno-Luddite)

....where you can find your *average* frost dates.

Or, just enter your ZIP code at this site:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/freeze-frost-dates/
....for your first and last (average) frost/freeze dates

If you are new to this, remember these dates are *averages* and they're only a guide.   But hopefully, they'll help a bit.
