Need a little help here...

Ok guys, the short version of the story is that my Mom has two awesome apple trees in her backyard that me and my sister used to eat from all the time. The problem is, she lives in California and I live in Georgia now. The second problem is that it seems like she might end up having to move soon, which means, no more apple tree!

I'm thinking that if she still has some apples left on the tree, to ask her to send me some so I can take the seeds and try planting them.

I need some advice: The last time I tried planting from seeds was when I was 10. While it was a successful venture, it's obviously been a while. So. Should I have her send me some apples and just toss them into some dirt and hope for the best? What would be the best procedure here? Also, how can I keep the extra seeds so that they don't "go bad" in case the first attempts don't work?

If there aren't any apples available, what else can I try? Should I ask her to cut a small cutting for me and send it? She'd probably have to fed-ex it to me somehow, so I'm wondering what would be the best way to go about all this without destroying the sample...

Pretty much, no matter what happens, it's going to be a one shot deal, so I figured I'd get some advice here before calling Mom up.
