Oxalis and Composting

Sep 19, 2008 07:43

Been away so long I might as well say I'm new here and wave "hello," I've been browsing quietly for about a month now.

The background: I've been an apartment/patio gardener for years and just got my first house and, therefore, my first yard. There will be many questions and games of "name that plant (anyone know the name of a 6'+ lily with brilliant red flowers smaller than a finger and goose-pimply little seed pods?).

The point of the post: I've been weeding for a month and my compost bin just arrived (I'm very excited). The question: will the compost bin destroy oxalis bulbs or just give them a nice petrie dish in which to strengthen and grow. I hate to throw out viable compostable matter, but I'd also hate to provide the little beasties a new and improved path toward world domination.

The composter is a Smith & Hawken biostack, I'm assuming one or two people may have some experience with them.

Thanks all in advance. And thanks for this community.
