For the 2010 election, I intended to stay up until there was a definite result one way or the other. By 3am, with no definite majority, I called it a night. I do not think I will be staying up that late tonight

I don't think it's uncommon for people here to stay up and get the election results. I know Americans do the same thing for their Presidential elections. Maybe when you force people to vote they don't care what happens as much?
I'd been watching The Vote on More4 (which was brilliant, did you see it?) and then went to check the BBC's website with the intention of following the live feed on there. When I saw the exit poll, I could not believe my eyes. It just came out of nowhere but I was relieved when it looked like most people weren't taking it seriously. I knew most results wouldn't come in till 3am and I was far too tired to stay up that late so I went to bed at half 12.
FPTP does not work so well with so many parties, the votes are spread so thin. I don't know what the chances of a voting reform are though, especially as the Tories won so resoundingly, even though they just managed to get a majority.
