Cards

It's that time of year again, isn't it?

The annual winter card writing extravaganza! I try to make an effort, hence the table full of stuffs: purple Waterman ink, the new Lamy fountain pen that I treated myself to from Karstadt in Dortmund, two penguin stamps and two boxes of cards! The top ones I got in Clinton's January Sales and the bottom box is from Aldi. I didn't really need the second box of cards but there was one design in it which amused me ;)

The only two cards I didn't buy were the ones for my mother and my sister which I made, viz:

You'll definitely need to click for the larger image - I'm not entirely sure the full effect comes across though. The cracker and two of the snowflakes on my mother's card, and the Father Christmas on my sister's card are raised up using those sticky foam pads. The photos don't really do either of the cards justice though, especially not my sister's one.

And! They're both upcycled! The only new items are card blanks I already had from when I was attempting to sell handmade cards, and the blue edging is gift ribbon which I had bought to decorate said cards with. Oh, and the cotton wool balls on my sister's card, they were new too - because, ew. The snowman image, the cracker greeting and the Father Christmas were all cut from cards I got last year. The snowflakes and silver stars came from an Australian pen pal who always liberally filled her cards to me with various sparklies. I collected them for 'just in case' reasons but they've turned out to be very useful for decorating cards! The blue background on my sister's card is tissue paper which was wrapped round a present I received a few years ago. All together they've made very nice cards!
