I spent all of yesterday painting! Not the artistic kind of painting though, more the DIY kind. Yes, it's fence painting time again. When I made a start on it
way back in April, I only got half of the right hand side done and I thought I'd better get the rest of it finished before autumn kicks in. I can't actually finish that side off just yet because there's sweetpeas growing up it at the moment so I had to do the other side instead. This is what it looked like beforehand:

It has 8 panels in total, there's another 2 at the bottom that I couldn't fit in the shot. They were new panels which hadn't been painted at all so I did those on Sunday. It took me 3 hours just to do those. They had 3 upright struts which I think is why it took longer, it was more fiddly. Yesterday morning, I made a start on the very right-hand panel and worked up the driveway. That first panel again took me almost an hour and a half, but the others only took 45 minutes because they don't have the upright struts. Even so, it still took me most of the day. I started at 9.30am and got it all finished bang on 4pm with just half an hour's break for my dinner as well as occasional pauses for drinks and stretches and distractions from my mother. I am absolutely knackered today; my back was aching this morning but it's mostly my thighs, upper arms, shoulders and hands.
This is what it looks like now:

It's a definite improvement but you can see how patchy it is on that first panel - the first proper panel, I mean, not the little bit of fence that I built - which means it's going to need a second coat. So this coming Sunday will be spent doing lots more painting and Monday will probably be spent doing lots of lying down! Once the sweetpeas have finished, I can get the last three panels on the other side done. Hopefully after all that, it won't be so bad or take so long to paint each year.
