Birthdayness

It's coming up to 9pm on Sunday night so I think it's safe to say that my birthday is officially over. It wasn't a bad one, I suppose, although I always find that it's a bit of a letdown because it's never as good as I hope it's going to be.

Saturday morning I woke up to a mass of e-mails which were mostly birthday greetings - either messages left on my Facebook wall or from various sites I have accounts on. Nintendo sent me 50 stars and I got a £10 discount voucher from a clothing site! That was all very nice and most unexpected. My sister apple_piye came over for dinner. Originally we were supposed to be going out somewhere for a meal but had difficulty finding somewhere to go so in the end, my mother said we'll just get some KFC and have it at home. Not exactly the nice birthday meal I had in mind at all so that was quite annoying. I asked Apple if she fancied playing Wii Sports while she was here and she said that sounded okay. Then my cousin-in-law said that we could borrow her Just Dance game as well so it ended up being a bit of a KFC and Wii afternoon. We got the food and ate that first but it wasn't very good. The fries were undercooked and kind of cold, and the chicken didn't seem properly cooked either. I had a drumstick and the meat was mostly dark pink and seemed a little more raw than I generally liked. The mini fillets seemed fine though thankfully but the rest of it was not. Once we'd eaten, it was time for presents and cards. My mother had got me a new dressing gown (that I'd actually asked for for Chanuka), some new pyjamas which she'd intended to be for when I next went to Boston, Weird Science on DVD and also the second series of The Big Bang Theory. My sister got me the Just Dance Wii game! I didn't get many cards; although I got the usual half a dozen from my family, for some reason I didn't get any from my friends that usually send them so that was a bit disappointing.

After all of that, I put Wii Sports on and all three of us played bowling. We had two games; the first one I won but it was all quite close and the second one, Apple won and I came last. I swear it was rigged somehow and I will be expecting a rematch at some point because surely it should be best of three. Apple and I had a go at baseball after that and I managed to win that 3-0 but I don't think either of us did as good as we could have done. Probably the two games of bowling beforehand had tired us out. My mother and I had a go of the Just Dance game but it's not as good as the advert said. The dance routines are rather naff and the scoring system is complete pants. If you do the dance routines properly, putting in lots of effort, it would be a really effective workout but you'd have to ignore the scoring. I'm not sure if I could do that, I like to know how well I'm doing! By this time we'd worked up a bit of an appetite so we had a sandwich and some birthday cake before Apple went home.

This morning I was pretty knackered as I didn't sleep very well at all last night - I have no idea why but I was still awake at 2am. I've had rather a lazy day as a result and spent most of it catching up on LJ et al from yesterday and playing lots of Rock Riot on Facebook. My mother suggested going out for dinner as yesterday's KFC had been so much of a letdown. After much deliberating, we ended up going to Frankie & Benny's as usual. They had a winter special menu with two courses for £9.95 which sounded like a good deal. Most of it was pizza but there was also a roast dinner option so we both went for that. My mother got the beef and I had the chicken. They both came with herb potatoes, carrots and broccoli, and a Yorkshire pudding plus two balls of stuffing! The stuffing was actually really tasty and so was my chicken. It was a bit weird though because it seemed to have been fried! The outside was all crispy but at least it was properly cooked. There was such a lot of food and it was all really nice but I felt like I needed a little something afterwards. I didn't have room for much so I just got the ice cream and my mother helped me eat it anyway.

So that's it all over and done with and back to work tomorrow. I had hoped to have tomorrow off but unfortunately I can't. The person who covers for me when I'm off had asked for all of next week off before I got chance to ask for Monday off. Bit of a shame because I feel like I could really do with a break right now - I've been working my arse off at two jobs for the past few months - but they both finish at the end of March anyway. I can manage another 3½ weeks.
