Dude.
After I'd finished unpacking from the lovely 4 week stay I had with Michael, I didn't put my bags away because I was waiting to see if I was needed to work a residential this weekend. As it turned out I'm not needed, so on Monday I shoved them back up in the attic as I wasn't expecting to need them again until at least September. The Law of Sod has now come into force and it seems that I will be needing them before then after all.
I'm helping to present some workshops down in Manchester during the first week of March and rather than schlep back and forth on the trains every day, I was asked if I'd rather stay down there instead. Seeing as the Tuesday I need to arrive for 8.30 which would mean getting up at 5am and then going on to present 3 workshops back to back in that day, I thought that staying over might be a better idea. When I checked my e-mail this morning, I was greeted by a hotel booking notification that had been forwarded to me by my boss! I've had a good look at the hotel and it certainly seems like a nice one. It's a 3 star, in the middle of Manchester and comes complete with en suite bathroom, television, the all important tea and coffee making facilities, and FREE WIRELESS INTERNET. It says FREE right on the website so it better bloody had be. Still, if it's not, I now have a lovely lovely dongle through work so I can have FREE wifi anyways. I just spent an hour trying to work out how to get it to connect because it apparently only works with Windows and Macs. Well, it does work with Linux, it just doesn't know that it does and once I'd found the right instructions to tell me how to get it to work, it was all sorted. So yes, one way or another, I will have internet access that week.
But yay, I go down on Sunday and then get to stay in Manchester for free for four nights! And then I go back home on Thursday ready for my birthday on Friday. What a fun week that is going to be! (I'm completely ignoring how busy it's going to be during the day obviously.) Anyone Manchester peoples want to come and hang out with me?
