Don't wanna go to work tomorrow. I wish I knew how much longer I was going to be doing this sucky temp placement, though there has been some discussion about the person I'm covering for. Ze's off sick and the sick note runs out next week so maybe ze'll come back. Oooo, flying pig ( Read more... )

I wanted to be a veterinarian. Duh. :-) As far as what I actually want to do now, I want to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife. I'm still trying to work out HOW to make that happen. :-/

I thought you did that now, just on a rather smaller scale than you would like to. Of course the allergies and the apartment don't help. Maybe you can rehabilitate little tiny animals until you get more space *nods*

I only do "triage," which basically means that I'll take animals from the public and then transfer them to another rehabber. I can only do this with baby wildlife and I can generally only do it on the weekends (because I work during the week and most baby animals can't go without food for 10 hours a day). So I really don't rehab as much as I like- I only have the "basic" stuff here with me in the apartment- my cages and the majority of my rehab equipment is underneath my parent's deck. I really really really want to get back into it, but we have to get a house first (the apartment complex would FREAK if they knew I brought squirrels/raccoons/bats into the apartment every now and then!).

Can you not help out in some other way? I know that the RSPCA places here are usually crying out for people to help, even if it's just someone to walk the dogs! They have other animals that require help too and at least you're still getting involved but without finding the space in your own home to do it.

There's one wildlife center near me, but they only rehab birds and reptiles (of which I do neither). Most people just rehab out of their home, so it'd be kind of weird to go over to their homes and help them out.

That's a shame. I thought there would have been more places, there certainly seems to be enough wildlife to warrant it!

Agreed. But nobody wants to fund such a place, because it's not that important to most people. It's annoying. :-/
