Choose not a life of imitation

I'm waiting to see if Owl will appear on Gaydar tonight so thought I'd waffle here until he does. We'd arranged to both be on there yesterday, but it was playing up and wouldn't let me on. Grrrr.

I had a fairly good day today. It was busy and that's always good. I actually got quite a few things crossed off my list of things to do, so yay me!

Quite a few years ago, my sister and I went through the attic and pulled together a box full of books and games that we didn't want anymore. Mother suggested a few weeks ago about getting rid of some stuff from the attic at a car boot sale. Not exactly my idea of a fun way to spend a Sunday but anything that gets me money isn't going to be rejected without some consideration. I went up into the attic this morning and pulled the boxes down. That is actually a bit of an understatement - I totally underestimated how heavy books can be when all boxed up. I might be fairly small but I did think I can at least lift a decent amount.

I spent most of the morning going through the box. I got the games sorted pretty quickly, but I knew the books would take more time. Now books are generally precious to me; I read like no one's business (although my current pile of books waiting to be read has some dating back to Christmas 2002!) but I don't tend to get rid of any. Unless they're really really bad. The books of mine in this box are just embarrassing: Choose Your Own Adventure books, The A-Team annuals, Blue Peter annuals (I'm pretty sure these are now collectors items and want to check before I get rid of them), that kind of thing. I was good though, and managed to restrain myself from starting to read any of them because I'd have never got anything done if I did that!

I went off to Caroline's after lunch and spent an hour being taught how to get my hair to do something. Thankfully the shop was fairly quiet but it was still embarrassing. I think it's just going to be a case of waiting till it grows longer but judging how quickly my hair grows, that shouldn't be too long.

From there, I went off to find an archery place to sign up for lessons. It's actually not that far away, maybe 20 minutes drive or so. I've booked a course of 6 weeks worth of lessons, every Friday at 6pm. It was either 6pm with three men of unknown age or 8pm with a family of mum, dad and two kids. Give me men over kids anyday. ;4) The man who signed me up showed me the range and said that they had different bows for me to try and different ways of shooting so it sounds like it could be fun. He asked where I lived and then said I was pretty lucky because that gave me the option of three different clubs should I decide I want to carry on afterwards. He asked where I'd found out about archery so I had to tell him I'd had a try at the Tales of Robin Hood in Nottingham quite a few years ago. I did really well there and realised that this could actually be something I could be good at, as well as being something I'd wanted to do for years. I'm actually really looking forward to it. Besides, I'm sure it'll be good for building up upper body strength and muscle so bonus there.

After that, I went to Matalan to get some clothes for the dance lessons on Mondays. I found out this week that my attire of jeans and t-shirt was not really appropriate, so I was after some trackpants instead. I realised that I'd forgotten to pick up the club card so I had to phone Mother and get her to bring it down for me. She said she'd be about twenty minutes so I spent the time just wandering around. I found myself in the teen section and they had some pretty fab skater type long sleeved t-shirts in the lads bit. I was admiring them, when I noticed that the front one was a size 'Youth Extra Large'. Now, as I said earlier, I'm fairly small so I should have no problems with them fitting me. I ended up getting two. Whooo, shopping in the boys section! Mother phoned me a while later asking exactly where I was so I told her I was near the tills, not wanting to admit I was looking at the mens underwear. She asked about the t-shirts and I just said I liked them. Her response was 'Back into the boys things, are we?' Look, Mother, I told you I was trans, you refused to admit it. I'm not discussing it with you in the middle of Matalan of all places!

I had to nip into Sainsburys before going home and thankfully Mother decided to stay in the car. I had to get some shampoo and a couple of other bits and bobs - one of which was baking soda for my packy. I'm pretty sure that translates as bicarbonate of soda in English but it still seems rather strange. It would have been hellish to try and explain to Mother why I needed it! And the Lynx which I picked up as well. Ho hum.

Heh. I tried on the t-shirts when I got home and they're too big!! Seriously long and baggy. I'm debating whether or not to take them back for a smaller size, as they'll be tighter across the chest. The ones I got are so baggy that I doubt it'll be a problem, but sheesh! How big are boys these days?!

So that was my day! It's now eleven pm and there's no sign of Owl. SA is two hours ahead so I doubt he'll be on at one o'clock in the morning! I sent him an e-mail on Thursday and I've had no response to it yet. Maybe the Italian he just spent the whole week with had more appeal than me after all. Oh well.
