Why five?

I joined a community featured in the LJ SPOTLIGHT!!!!!!!!1 - thewhyfive. Pretty simple concept - they give a "Top Five" topic every week and then everyone responds to it. Here's mine for the past two weeks.

Top Five Road Trip Songs: I noticed after writing this that I tend to like songs with bittersweet lyrics. Maybe because most of my road trips have signified something pretty important and milestone-y... you know, leaving one place and starting over in another or whatever. Anyway.

(1) "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" - Elton John - Maybe it's because it's about New York City, one of the best road-trip destinations. A ton of Elton's songs could go on my list... "Rocketman," "Tiny Dancer," "Honky Cat," etc.

(2) "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen - This one is just purely for fun. Who knows what the lyrics mean? Who cares? It's just fun to belt out "Beezlebub has a devil put aside for me... for meeee... FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" at the top of my lungs.

(3) "Daylight Fading" - Counting Crows - I love this long, country-ish-sounding song. Its lyrics are a little sad, but the music is cheery. I miss the days when the Crows didn't suck.

(4) "You Get What You Give" - The New Radicals - This song reminds me of my senior year of high school. It was on the first burned CD I ever made. Now that I'm giving my reasons for picking this, I don't really know why I did. But I can't think of anything else at the moment, so here it stays.

(5) "Vienna" - Billy Joel - I think if I had heard this song back in 2000 or 2001, my life might have taken a completely different turn. Since I love my current life, I'm glad I didn't know about it back then. As it is, I now listen to it to remind myself to chill and just let things happen.

Top Five Under-Appreciated Movies: - My on-the-fly movie reviews are cheesy and hardly do these films justice. Just see 'em.

(1) Seems Like Old Times - NO ONE has seen this Neil Simon movie, and it's a damn shame, because it's hilarious. Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, Charles Grodin, bank heists, illegal immigrants, stray dogs, Aurora's chicken pepperoni... this movie has it all and I could watch it over and over and over.

(2) True Romance - Why hasn't everyone seen this!? The insane violence and the beliveable sweetness between Alabama and Clarence work perfectly. Whoever the casting director was, they deserve a gold star.

(3) Wet Hot American Summer - No, it's not a porno. The cast of "The State" (or "Reno 911," if you need something more current for reference) made a movie about summer camp. It's stupidly funny, especially Chris Meloni's crazy cafeteria-worker character.

(4) Snatch - Great soundtrack, great editing, great story, great cast. I've heard Guy Ritchie's other movies suck royally, but I'm glad he didn't screw this one up.

(5) The Great Muppet Caper - I adore this movie and have since I was a kid, even though the songs get stuck in my head for weeks afterwards. It's set in England, but only half of the cast has British accents. I think it's a little lesser known than The Muppet Movie or Muppets Take Manhattan.
