Today it was time. Just a couple of days after the autumnal equinox with a full moon, the strawberries had been soaking in vodka since high summer. I separated the booze from the berries and turned the berries over with lots of powdered sugar and some hot water to draw out the last of the vodka and the strawberry flavor. The resulting liquid was measured into the booze until it tasted just right. It's a beautiful red color and the aroma is divine. Home made strawberry liquour!
Beats me why more people don't make their own liquour. It's easy and delicious and guests are SO impressed and awed. :)
Mom and I took a walk downtown today. They're shooting a couple of scenes for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo here in Jackdawtown and the film crew had dressed a central street in a 60's costume. New signs on the buildings, new (old-looking) facades in some places, they even repainted crossings and put a 60's type menu in a restaurant window. Fun to see - our old familiar street, as it might have looked back when I was a baby. Apparently Daniel Craig will be here on Tuesday shooting his scene, but the street is going to look modern then. The 60's scene will be shot tomorrow. Might be fun to go downtown and gawk a little bit. :) It should be quite a spectacle as there's a parade in the scene with marching bands and clowns and what not.
I do have an aerobics class booked tomorrow afternoon, but I won't go if I feel as stiff as today. I'm in great shape and I've been working out five times a week lately, but there is such a thing as overdoing it and I'm not going to be stupid. If I skip aerobics tomorrow I can look forward to a peaceful evening in front of the TV. There's hardly anything on TV that I care to watch anymore, but Sunday evenings I get both Time Team (British archaeologists) and Amazing Race, so that's a couple of hours of cherished me-time. With Lucy-cat sleeping on my lap, if I'm lucky. It's weird - having Lucy-cat asleep on my lap puts me to sleep better than anything else. Within minutes of her settling, I nod off. I can't fight it, it's a total sleeping pill. The relaxing power of cats is truly awesome.
