Talking Meme: Day One

First question, asked by marianna_merlo: If you had to pair Pansy with one person and never re-pair her again, who would it be with and why?

Ah, well, I'm afraid that this is an unfortunately simple question to answer, because Pansy is not exactly a fandom bicycle for me.  I like Pansy, but I don't adore her.  Similarly, there are a good handful of Pansy pairings that I think are pretty good, but only one that I really love.  It's quite easy, therefore, for me to say that, if I were to pair Pansy with only one person and never re-pair her again, she would be with Padma.  I really like her with Padma.  I like the pairing because what little we saw of Padma was of her being snappy and snarky, and Pansy is one of the meaner characters, so I figure they'd be well-matched in a constant struggle of who can be wittier, bitchier, and nastier (culminating in angry sex obviously).  I do go with the fandom interpretation of Pansy as very self-confident and quite clever (although not brilliantly clever), but I like the idea of Padma being just a step above her in both categories and putting her in her place.

Tangentially, Pansy's popularity in fandom (especially the femmeslash part of the fandom) is an interesting and baffling thing to me, because while I can see the appeal of most of the fandom's favourites (Harry and Hermione are main characters, and Draco and Snape are ~conflicted~), I genuinely don't know why everyone loves Pansy so much.  She's just kind of a straight-up awful person, and it's not like she even gets a lot of screen time in which to be awful.  I mean, I like her because she's a bitch - sort of the Carmelita Spats of the HP universe.  Is that the appeal to everyone else too?  If so, why doesn't the fandom love all the other bitches in the same way?  Thoughts?  For people for whom Pansy is among your top favourite characters, why?  I'm curious!  Also, to everyone reading, what are some of your favourite Pansy pairings and why?

Give me subjects to talk about :D
