technology is lame sometimes

I returned home from my dim-sum-and-a-movie night yesterday to discover that the screen of my new, less-than-one-month-old computer Skynet had been replaced by mysterious squiggly blue lines. Rebooting provided me with the error message "NTLDR is missing", which some research showed to be related to the win.ini file being corrupted. But for some reason, Skynet refused to boot from the Windows CD so I could repair my Windows installation. It's really frustrating to know exactly what has to be done but be unable to make it happen. Luckily, it's under a parts and labor warranty, so now I get to take it back to Nanosystems in just a little while. Hopefully this counts - otherwise I'll have to pay, because I can't exactly find a job without a computer, as recent events have shown.

Anyway, dammit. This is particularly irritating because Nanosystems doesn't open until 10, which is the same time that I was supposed to be at band rehearsal, so every minute that it takes me there is a minute we don't get to rehearse. And then I get to try to park in the footrace-traffic-induced disaster that will surely be freeimprov's neighborhood. Unfortunately, computer has to take precedence over band practice, but it sucks that my morning is so stressful now.

It also sucks that my day was going so well yesterday until this happened. Fortunately dayzdark in his infinite wisdom placated me by splitting a bottle of wine with me, so at least I got to go to sleep with my last memory of the day being good conversation rather than computer annoyances.

annoyances, technology
