Waldorf penthouse, New York

May 09, 2008 00:00

Hey Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl here. Once again it's that time of year: a time when the weather turns warm and the young and beautiful turn away from the three Rs in favor of some better ones. Relaxing, Recreation and the Really scandalous fun that comes when you're part of the idle Rich.

Of course, not all on the UES are turning their frowns upside down. Haven't they heard that sulking, much like UV rays, only gives you wrinkles? Guess they missed that memo. Lucky for you I'm here to fill you in on everything you need to know.

Blair Waldorf was composed as she sat on the edge of her bed and watched as Dorota filled one suitcase after another with Blair's things. Of course Blair Waldorf was always composed, no matter what she did. She was Blair Waldorf. She was cool, confident, and utterly in control at all times.

"Dorota, don't pack the blue dress," Eleanor Waldorf said from her position in the doorway. "Blair doesn't have the bust for it."

At all times. Even when she might have entertained the notion of how nice it might be to let her frustrations show.

"It's last season anyway," Blair said, as though she'd meant to agree with her mother the whole time. She toyed with the ruby ring on her finger. "Only the new clothes, Dorota."

"Not that one either," Eleanor said as she saw Dorota begin to pack a yellow dress from Blair's second closet. "It hasn't been tailored." Eleanor came into the room and looked her daughter over. She reached out to pat Blair's hair into place. Blair knew that the frown meant that Eleanor felt Blair needed to use a better conditioner. "The car will take you to the helipad. You said that Nathanial would be meeting you there?"

Blair had said that. Granted it was a question of whether one Nathanial Archibald, boyfriend of Blair's since kindergarten, had ever said such a thing as well. Not that you could see such a question in Blair's smile. "You know how he is. He's absolutely torn up about our being apart. It's all he can do to bear the idea of saying goodbye at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up deciding to come to Virginia with me right then and there."

It was actually far more likely that Nate was currently smoking up with Chuck and that any last-minute rushes would involve remembering that Blair was leaving. But to admit that was to admit that Nate had been acting distant lately, and Blair couldn't admit that even to herself. The one person she could admit it to had run off to boarding school without even saying goodbye. Which was really why Blair was leaving. Her best friend had run away without her, her boyfriend wasn't quite himself, her father was still insisting on being gay in France, and Eleanor Waldorf... was Eleanor Waldorf.

It was too much chaos. Too much that Blair couldn't control. So she'd go somewhere where she could take control. Somewhere where no one would look at her and pity her for how out of the loop she'd been in her own life.

"I'll write every day," Blair said. Whereas most girls her age would've meant emails and texts - and Blair would do those too - Blair was old-fashioned enough that she also meant handwritten letters. She'd spent weeks ordering fancy stationary sets for her letters to Nate, and she had a list drawn up of what perfumes she would use to scent the pages depending upon what she was writing. "It'll be like I never left."

"Dorota will keep me posted," Eleanor said. Which meant that she wouldn't be reading the letters at all, and would probably forget that Blair had even mentioned it in the first place.

Blair took all of this in, then thought about her flight to Virginia tomorrow.

Sometimes she really could understand why Serena had vanished. Or at least why she would've wanted to.

Spotted: B getting ready to fly the friendly skies to places unknown. Is this B trying to reunite with her FF? Or does she have as much to hide as S once did? Don't they know that no matter how far you go the truth will always find you?

When it does, I'll be right here to tell you all about it. You know you love me. XOXO. Gossip Girl.
