Here's the update I promised. For our anniversary, Sarah took me to the coolest concert in the world. Maybe even in...the galaxy?
Star Wars in Concert!
It was unbelievable! While John Williams wasn't conducting, it was still a dream come true. They had a specially built screen which played series of clips specifically edited to fit the music, so it was a much more emotional experience than any of the movies. This was especially true during the evolution of Anakin Skywalker. You really felt the pain in a way that the movies kind of dropped the ball on.
The whole performance was narrated live by Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) who is the only Cast Member who has been in every Star Wars movie. There was also a special opening by James Earl Jones.
The orchestra was just amazing! Simply flawless. There were also a surprising number of seemingly young members of the orchestra. Given how quickly orchestra spots fill up out here, I was very impressed by that.
During the performance, not only were there the clips running on the stage, but there were also lights, lasers, and pyrotechnics! They almost acted like additionally instruments, accenting cues, and adding intensity to some, already very intense, music.
In the lobby, they were displaying original set pieces, ranging from blasters and ship models, to costumes! They had Han Solo frozen in carbonite, Yoda, Boba Fett, as well as fun backdrop scenes from the movies that you could take your picture in front of. Unfortunately, our camera is a video camera, and video cameras were not allowed, so we had to sneak it in, and were unable to get a ton of pictures, for fear of being thrown out. Still though, amazing!
I'm reminded daily of all the reasons I love Sarah, and things like this...just wow.
Also, I found out later that George Lucas was in attendance the day we went. So while we didn't see him, if any of you want to touch me, I'd understand.
