This weekend's hopefully relaxing schedule

My to-do list has overflowed the bounds of the weekend this last week, and I’ve had a list for each evening. But - several things are done. The main things I’m doing this weekend are cooking and piddling in the garden on Saturday, then sorting game books and letting pies bake while I play D&D.

We’ve had a stray dog attacking the chickens. It’s killed six so far - five hens and one rooster, plus bitten up a few more who may or may not survive. The three it killed yesterday, it was run off from the fresh carcasses, so I took the dead chickens and butchered them out. I was planning on cooking some pho this weekend anyway - now I have fresh chickens to do it with! Hopefully, we’ll soon do in the dog. My mother shot it in the hindquarters a couple days ago, but it got away before she could kill it. Obviously, it wasn’t too injured to come back and kill a few more birds. Unless it gets an infection and dies, it will be back a third time (and fourth, and fifth, until killed), so all trips to the chicken yard are to be accompanied by a loaded gun and watchful eyes.

Saturday -

  • Water tender plants.

  • Water everything.

  • Dig holes for new grape plants.

  • Top-dress strawberries and artichokes with some compost.

  • Weed strawberry beds.

  • Make chicken pho.

  • Make bread and cinnamon rolls.

  • Bake sweet potatoes.

  • Get furniture polish and use it.

  • Move vanity mirror from my daughter’s room to the guest bedroom.

  • Repaint closet in guest bedroom and do touch-up in house - game room, stairwell, and arch to kitchen.

  • Work on BF’s resume.

Sunday -

  • D&D.

  • Inventory game books and magazines.

  • Bake sweet potato pies.

Other stuff if I get around to it:

  • Cut railroad ties and position in the garden.

  • See about getting more mulch. I’d have to get a pickup load because the trailer is full of trash.

  • Get a few loads of chicken manure for gardening.

  • Spread cardboard for paths in garden. These will be later covered with mulch.

  • Get ex’s lawn mowed. I’m not sure if my father has fixed the mower yet. If he hasn’t, then I’ll need to hire someone, ASAP.

  • Watch Heroes.

  • Watch Game of Thrones.

  • Burn stuff. This is only applicable if the wind is low.

  • Check bees (also depends on the wind being low).

  • Buy and apply fertilizer for the fruit trees.

  • Spray fruit trees for bugs and diseases.

  • Review BB gun safety and use with both kids.

  • Repost car sale advertisement on Craigslist and post it to some other places. What online places do people go to shop for cars?

  • Post on Facebook the china I'm trying to get rid of.
