I get tomorrow off work, which is pretty awesome because I have tons of things I want to get done! My kids still go to school tomorrow, so I'll even have some time to myself. Joy! Here's my plan:
Friday -
Plant artichokes. Create a windbreak for them. I think I’ll go with pots filled with wet mulch.
Fix homemade pho. I'm following this recipe. I've started on the broth tonight and plan to let it simmer all night.
Make bread and cinnamon rolls.
Set out the table and bench. Chain them down so the wind doesn’t make off with them. I probably need to get seating for four out there. Right now, a board and a pair of cinder blocks is simple enough.
It would be nice to shake out the tent and clean it off for permanent storage. That way I can get it out of the garage. Since it’s sitting on the table I plan to move out, that’s important.
Stake out the corners of the berry patch. I have five eight-foot t-posts. I can do two rows and the row that ends on the fort. That will leave three rows lacking, so I need six more posts. I wonder if my dad has a half dozen t-posts he’s not using? I’ll bet he does. I should check that out. I need the stakes to be stout enough to string wires at tension to support the berry vines for a few years. Or a decade.
Water everything. The t-posts are also important to prevent me from using the hose to accidentally mangle my blackberry bushes as I pull the hose here and there across the yard.
Take the kids to their well-child appointments and submit their summer camp applications.
Saturday -
Clean the old hive. Collect wax in my ex’s mother’s double boiler, now that I have two of them. I really ought to empty mine out, too. There’s chocolate in it that’s been there since the making of Christmas candy. While I figure it’s still edible, if I haven’t used it by now, then I should toss it.
Put out the new hive and a paperbox swarm trap. I’ll have to paint the interior of both with swarm lure.
Return my ex’s trash container off the curb. Refill it if possible. We’re hoping the trash collection people don’t know he’s not paying his bill anymore and pick the stuff up anyway. If they don’t, then I’ll have to haul it back to my house and put it on my curb a load at a time.
Drop off loads at Goodwill.
Go to Kit's place to dye eggs. Bring hard-boiled eggs, unboiled eggs, and kids.
Sunday -
Go to Muskogee to scatter my ex's ashes at the azalea festival.
Dig irises. Label and box for delivery to my coworker on Monday.
Other stuff that I’ll do if I have time -
Post pictures of the Singer sewing machine, which means I’ll have to find the appropriate local forums to advertise it in.
Take pictures of the car. I’ll be selling my ex’s Oldsmobile Bravada now that I have the magic paper that allows me to do that legally (ie, being appointed Personal Representative).
Watch Heroes.
Burn stuff. There’s a lot of cardboard I need to get rid of from the boxes used in moving. This is only applicable if the wind is low.
Clean furniture. All the furniture I got from my ex’s was nasty dirty, even by my very lax standards. Everything needs a damp cloth taken to it, some scrubbing, and furniture polish.
Fold, measure, label, and distribute sheets and blankets. This will clear out the utility room and let me see what I’ve got as far as linens go.
Finish unloading all dining room boxes other than china. My mother wanted some of the glassware, so I should take the boxes by her place and let her sort out what she wants.
It’d be nice if I polished my shoes again. They’re getting to where they need it.
I have a big planter container that blew into my back yard. Before I plant in it, I should make an attempt to find the true owners and return it.
