Title: Stay Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 1,200 Setting: The Wall Warnings: None Summary: Peter realizes he is unwilling to leave Sylar behind in the world of the Wall.
Wow. Great description of the desolation of the landscape. It really set the mood for the story. Love the image of Sylar as loyal and devoted to Peter. Like his shadow companion. And Peter's change of heart where he decides to follow Sylar back home. That was a very nice and heart warming reversal. And of course, I love the spooning, but the way you did it, with Peter thinking of all the things he could offer Sylar was what made it tender and meaningful.
Thank you so much! If it weren't for your urging, I wouldn't have written this one, so thank yourself, too!
Peter gives up something for Sylar here. Peter gives up his stubbornness, which I think is an important first step.
I think about what Sylar would think when Peter set off to walk out of this place, and one of those things would be fear of what would happen if it really worked, and Peter left him here forever. Because this is written to be at a point where Peter has little or nothing invested in Sylar, no emotional connection. So Sylar would follow him with a sort of sad hope that Peter would turn back, but Sylar knows Peter and he knows that's impossible. Peter's going to forge ahead no matter what. Which makes it all the more striking for Sylar when Peter changes his mind.
First off I want to say you should thank DD3 for convincing me to write this one in the first place. I was sitting here writing or doing something one day and I got cold. So I laid on the couch and covered up, still cold for some reason and as I often do when trying to sleep, I tell myself stories. Or just describe scenes. "Stay" is the scene I laid out and then I went to sleep. I don't know if I described it well, but in my dreamy-semi-sleep state, the buildings had an unreal character, what little was left of them. It was really something of a wasteland

Great minimal description on the building they've found to camp out in. I can totally see the place just from the window, the blanket, the cardboard boxes and the implications based on what you've written about the buildings around it

Hypothermia sets in when the body's core temperature drops below a certain range. I forget what it is, but it's possible to get hypothermia at room temperature. Most people are healthy and have good circulatory systems, and their body is competent at generating heat, so it doesn't happen. But people who are very ill (and usually old), or getting transfusions where the fluid isn't warmed to body temp, or have ingested a bunch of cold stuff, and/or are wet and/or exposed to drafts can get hypothermia at temperatures well above freezing

Something about picturing a cold and tired Sylar just loyally following Peter made my heart break a little.
I loved the ending, Peter giving up on a goal for Sylar of all people. Peter promising not try and leave Sylar again.
Great great fic.
