Planning to start about now. Is anyone around?

I finally got my season 4 boxset back. Yay! I feel like a bit of a season 4 marathon at some point this week, if I have time, seeing as I haven't seen any of it in so long. But for now, Duel!

I'm around. Struggling with writer's block. My daughter's going outside and I've got to keep an eye on her (I'm in the front room with my laptop). So I won't be rewatching for another 10 minutes or so.

I can give it ten minutes (it'll be midnight here then) :)

I sympathise with the writers block. I've a piece for Uni that's giving me trouble and its only supposed to be 500 words. Bah.

I find that this episode, alongside Powerless, is the one that feels the least like a series finale. Powerless did feel more like a conventional episode than this one, seeing as pretty much every plot line is resolved or twisted to set up the next volume here, but its pushing it. I guess both episodes have "excuses" in that Series 2 was effected by the writer's strike and this is technically only the end of the "Villains" volume, not Series 3 as a whole... I don't know. I like Duel, its a good episode, especially in comparison with a lot of this volume (its a step up from the set up of last week, for example, and Claire has a lot more to do and is more compelling than she has been since, I don't know, episode 3 or 4?) but I always feel there's something a little missing...

Anyway, enough complaints. I actually really do like this episode. Lets start this thing!

Getting started!

Interesting how they respliced the Sylar/Peter/Arthur killing scene. Ah, and some extra footage of Mohinder directing Arthur to put his hands on the vat.

Oo! Sylar is narrating! He does good voice.

There's Arthur, dead, and Nathan's response ...? I notice Peter says that Sylar "did it".

I love the close ups of their faces.

I think Peter's chosen a side really firmly. And now it's Nathan lying there! Ha.

"Peter couldn't do it, so I did it."

And here we have Sylar's great psychology experiment.

Love that reference this as Sylar's psychology experiment. It so is. Does this prove Sylar's interest in psychology and human behavior? Or just his interest in proving he's not the only monster around? If he proves that heroes can be monsters, does that also prove that a monster like him can be a hero?

I love that you reference this as Sylar's psychology experiment. Does this prove his interest in psychology and human behavior, or just his interest in proving that others can be monsters like him? And if he does prove that heroes can be monsters, does that mean that a monster like him can be a hero?

He wants to be seen for a human being. He'd like to hide his flaws, they cause him and his relationships hang-ups, but I think he knows its part of the deal. He wants the heroes to get off their high horses and own up to their mistakes because they're all lying and deceitful. So in that (while he's "more evil" he's also more honest) makes him equal to them, so...yes.

Hero-monster, monster-hero.

I use Noah as a prime example because I said a few weeks ago that he learns too late by S4, that he never actually *did* his job, never helped anyone but Claire; even then it wasn't understanding specials, not even her. So that line about his "ability is to understand people like you [specials]" is and utter crock of shit.

Angela fesses up. Peter's always known he makes mistakes. Nathan's...just proud. Claire's...well.

In the previous episode: Hiro regenerated. Then it all turned out to be for nothing. The catalyst was either magic or love. Nathan continues to swing from one opinion to the other and Sylar's hilarity and awkward lift moment last episode means he gets the honour of having clips from way back in episode 3 in this previously on segment. Also, Arthur died and Claire gets no recap ha ha ( ... )

Yes, the dialogue does sound very much like something he'd say or think, which I love!

The writing for this episode is pretty good.

Oh, I missed the part about choosing what we need! Thanks for quoting. That's so revealing.
