This year, the Chief Accounting Officer put her foot down and said she didn’t want her department doing peak volunteering for other departments, just accounting work, so we didn’t have to do the warehouse/customer service gig starting the day after Thanksgiving. OMG, yes! Still had to work Black Friday (at home), but I was pretty much caught up with my monthly work by then, so the day was low in stress. Plus, Curmudgeon was around, quietly reading or watching the TV on low volume, and he made us turkey hash for breakfast which I ate at my desk, so it was nice. Next year, we will be on the HR policy of the company that bought us a year ago. Their holidays include the day after Thanksgiving and MLK Day, which we didn’t have before, which will be nice (though I’ll lose three days of vacation-type PTO, so an almost-wash in their favor).
