Rouben Mamoulian.

I have been going through boxes and shelves and closets cluttered with old memorabilia and printed junk in search of interesting and hitherto forgotten gems. Here's one nice one I found. It's a program booklet from an October 1967 tribute to the illustrious Hollywood director Rouben Mamoulian in Manhattan.

The director was on hand to introduce several of his films, which were being shown in the best available 35mm prints, some of them for the first time in decades. I went to the 1931 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Fredric March, and Mr. Mamoulian autographed the program booklet for me. I have only a few other items that were autographed for me by great directors I have encountered over the years. They are Federico Fellini, Frank Capra, Roberto Rossellini and Francesco Rosi.

The films of Mamoulian presented in this complete retrospective were:

Queen Christina (1933, with Greta Garbo)
Applause (1929)
City Streets (1931)
Becky Sharp (1935, first Technicolor feature)
Song of Songs (1932)
Summer Holiday (1946)
Silk Stockings (1957)
Blood and Sand (1941)
Golden Boy (1939)
High, Wide and Handsome (1937)
We Live Again (1934)
The Gay Desperado (1937)
Rings on Her Fingers (1942)
The Mark of Zorro (1940)
Love Me Tonight (1932)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
