Ah, bluefish!!!

Grilled bluefish cures the blues at Scales and Shells in Newport, RI.
I like seafood of all kinds, but this year I have decided that bluefish is my favorite fish. Grilled, as above at Scales and Shells in Newport, it is best...moist, oozing with slightly oily and meaty flavorsomeness. Not many people order bluefish, and it is not always available.

I recently bought some at the fresh-off-the-boat seafood store in Point Judith when returning from Block Island via the ferry. I wanted to cook it at home. It's about as cheap as a fish can get these days, like monkfish, which is also supremely tasty. I broiled it, and it was quite wonderful. It's a difficult fish to ruin. I think if you applied a blowtorch to it for an hour, it would still be moist and savory.

I had intended this to be a post on the various fish I've eaten, with a nod to bluefish in particular. But I won't. I'll expand on the seafood theme later. I'll just ask you now to consider bluefish. Look at it, consider it, order it or make it, squeeze lemon on it, eat it, enjoy it, smile.
