We just had some excitement --I caught a bird in mfg! A yellowbellied sapsucker no less. Apparently they don't know their birds, they've been trying to lure it with crackers for a day or so...even though they knew what it was-- Come on, why do you think they call it "SAPSUCKER"? I had errands to run at lunchtime and was getting all stressed out and then I rounded a corner in the Home Depot parking lot and... there was a killdeer by the mediocre strip of greenery.  No one behind me so I stopped, about 5 feet from the bird.  We watched each other, I regretted not bringing my entire pocketbook which has my camera in it... and ( Read more... )

I thought I saw a couple a week or so ago but they were far away so I wasn't completely sure.
But this ... this is a whole flock of them on a serious worm-hunt outside my boss's office window.
Spring is on its way early to Connecticut -- previous years the earliest I'd seen them was mid-March.

What a shame I didn't bring my camera today!
