Wow... I can't believe that I've already had four weeks of my summer vacation - next weekend, the August Long weekend, normally devoted to our annual Tobermory trip, is being used for camping instead. We will return to Tobermory next year.
What have we done with our summer?
- We camped on Lake Erie just before school ended ... although, it isn't really camping if there's a waterslide and a spa on site, is it? First time I've had a pedicure at camp. First time Sonja went on a waterslide, too.
- My SIL came for a visit with the kids, so Sonja got to spend lots of time with her cousins. We went to Centre Island - first time for me since I was a kid - played at the park, and had fun just hanging out.
- We went camping at one of the local conservation areas ... there is a lovely beach there, and since my GF's kids are a bit older, they looked after Sonja while they went on walks & played at the park. We had a cool thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, and roasted marshmallows on the fire that night. We finally broke down & got an air bed to use at camp ... I like my Thermarest, but I was way more comfortable on the air bed.
- Sonja just finished two weeks of swimming lessons - didn't quite get all the requirements down, so I'm going to put her in the same level again in the fall, if I can find a class that's reasonable for me to get her to. She did great - jumps into the water without hesitation, and even retrieved a rubber ring from the bottom of the pool, but is having trouble making the transition to kicking & floating without the help of the instructor. More practice should help.
- Last weekend, the Shrine Circus was in town, and my parents & I took Sonja. She had her face painted, got a sparkly light wand, and really enjoyed the show. My favourite was the acrobats, who did some really dangerous stunts without safety nets.
- Upcoming ... after camp next weekend, Sonja is going to gymnastics day camp for the week. She went to a birthday party at the gymnastics club in the spring, and really enjoyed it. We're trying the mornings instead of whole days - don't have to worry about packing a lunch for the kid who eats nothing that way. :-)
- The big thing? Hubby & I are going away for a week - without Sonja. She is staying with my parents while we drive down to Virginia. Should be good - we'll be near Washington DC and the Great Smoky Mountains. And a good mall... :-)
What have you been up to?
