So for my Persuasive Argument class we need to write a papter on Gay Marriage in which we take a particular stance on the argument.

Any thoughts or ideas to get me going?

I found this on a website, and posted it on my journal. While a lot of it is [supposed to be] comical, it makes decent points.

Thanks for that... we talked about all those things in class, and I think I'm gonna use some of them in my paper. Anything else?

this is like the civil rights movement - discriminating against people who are different. it was blacks vs whites, now its straights vs gays.

its also dealing with peoples emotions. if two people love eachother why is it illegal for them to marry because of their sex? do they not love eachother like two straight people?

also - in the long run, will it really effect you if they get married? i don't think so.

hope you aren't having a hard time still :) missss youuu

Oh my god, well I work for The Haworth Press now (www.haworthpress.com if you want to see if we have any books that might appeal to you) and we do TONS of gay and lesbian books. I'm working on one right now about gays in the workplace. Although it's about the workplace, there's a lot about domestic partner benefits, nonharassment policies, etc. which I think is all very interesting. It goes beyond just "well the Bible says being gay is wrong and marriage is between a man and woman, blah blah blah" becuase there are so many legal restrictions on nonheterosexual couples that aren't necessarily always addressed. This is a figure from the book, and the source is the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (2002): 42 percent of Americans believe the federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the United States, but there are no provisions for sexual orientation in the Constitution, Americans with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights Bills of 1964 and 1972, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, or the Age Discrimination Act ( ... )
