Beannachtai na Feile Padraig!
That is to say: "Happy St. Patrick's Day!" or as I like to call it Irish Day. :B Yeah, despite the fact that I have the most amazingly French name, and look like every other French chick out there, I am, in fact, mostly Irish. The fun part about my family tree is that the Great Grandmother on my mom's side came from Ireland while the Great Grandmother on my dad's side came from North Ireland. That makes for all kinds of fun in the family.
It's around this time of year that I like to get in touch with my roots, moreso than usual. This year we were supposed to go to Ireland, but due to the shitty economy and my dad losing his job and failing to get another one that actually pays (he can say all the good stuff he wants about his 'financial group' he's with now, it still sounds like a cult to me), that plan got squashed. Even my plan for Japan this year is on the rocks now. But we're not going to dwell on that. Happy thoughts.
Since a bunch of us are having a potluck on Saturday for St. Patrick's Day, I figured I'd try my hand at an Irish dessert. Of the recipes mom and I found we settled on Apple Cake (let's face it, I'm a bit of a danger in the kitchen, so the easiest option is pretty much the best for me). Poor J.D. didn't realize he'd be baking when he came over yesterday. XD Hell, neither did I. Anyhoo, despite a few complications, the cake actually turned out really well! It's very tasty. I don't have the recipe with me right now, but you take 4 apples, dice 'em up and put them right into the batter. You also throw in some cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg. Yummy! You can serve it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. I'll be making another cake specifically for Saturday. This one was my trial cake. XD
Also, yesterday, quite early actually, I finished Resident Evil 5! Very good game that. I still get a kick out of Capcom's need to have a good majority of their endings with the characters flying away into the sunset. Even in Devil May Cry (though flying off into the sunset in a helicopter is less laughable than flying off into the sunset in a bi-plane. XD ). This game has really made me become more of a fan of Chris, he's a swanky guy. Leon's still my favourite (and I still think they should be in a game together...), but Chris is very awesome. The final boss battle was so deceptively easy... it throws you into this panic and everything seems impossible until you realize that the game pretty much does everything for you as long as you can land a few solid hits with your gun of choice. I used nothing but my M925 (pistol) and Chris' giant freakin' arms (what other guy punches a boulder to move it? Lol).
It's been a long time since I've played a game I've enjoyed so much. Yeah, I love Killzone, but I've got a soft spot for Resident Evil. I'm playing it over again already (started a new game yesterday even). I'm playing through on Veteran now (hard mode), which doesn't seem to be too much more difficult than Normal in all honesty, other than the hits take out a lot more health than they used to. Actually, I'm already halfway through the game again. Even taking my time 'cause I want to get all the emblems and treasures.
As it stands now I'm just taking a break to dork around on the computer and have some lunch (...at 4pm, sure, but it's still only my second meal of the day..)
So yes, in short, Resident Evil 5 = Good Fun. I think my favourite is still RE4, but that's probably mostly because I'm so accustomed to it and my favourite character is the lead.
... I think I've had far too much caffeine today.
