Body Awareness

2 weeks ago I found my spine. I noticed while I was turning my head that I could feel the individual vertebrae moving. This is very exciting. I have practiced maintaining this every day because body awareness is a good thing.

Last week I went to a chi gung seminar and learned something that I should have learned a while ago. It was something I have been told several times but I had never really listened before. I learned how to put my awareness into my lower tan tien. If you don't know anything about chinese medicine, there's really no way to explain that properly. It basically means you put your awareness in your body. It's sort of like thinking with your body instead of your brain. It lets you move in a different way. It is very relaxing. I can do this for about 5 minutes and fix my forearms enough that I have no symptoms of RSI for several days (basically until I do something that puts a lot of tension into my wrists again). Right now the only things I can do with it are circles and pulsing, but I'm working on moving in more complicated ways. And just putting my awareness there changes the way I move (or maybe it just changes the way I feel like I am moving). My steps are lighter when walking. My posture improves. My peripheral vision improves. Ringing is very different. Ideally, the thing to do now would be learning to move all over again like a baby does, but I really can't afford to be helpless for the next 9-12 months while I relearn how to walk and everything else. Fortunately, I can fall back on the way of moving that I already know. This will mean slower progress, but I don't have to be helpless while I am learning.
