We all knew I wouldn't stay put for long.
Well, for a while now I have been considering moving to Hawaii. A friend mentioned it, and for a bit I didn't really consider it- in some ways I feel like I've just gotten back.
But as I realized that a majority of my options for Fall 2006 as a high school teacher were in the ghetto, I started thinking about Hawaii. My mother grew up there, and lives there now with my aunt and uncle. The NY Board of Education is absolutely impossible to deal with, and by the time I give them everything they want all the schools will have hired already. To boot, my friend has some friends there who want to rent out a room in their apartment. They would save it for us.
Plus, I hate New York. And since I plan on going into the Master's program in 2007 in New York, I will have plenty of time to be stuck here later. So, one last adventure.
I've spent the last few weeks going absolutely mad with paperwork to get hired by a school in Honolulu. I've gotten lots of responses, one of those responses being a flat out job offer for a Freshman English teaching position. An all-girls Catholic school is seriously interested in me too, and said they wanted my transcript before making a choice. I sent that out today and I am hoping for that one.
Worse case scenario, I have both a job and an apartment lined up for the 2006 school year. And unless I become crippled or become allergic to palm trees, I'm going.
THIS is the island I'm going to live on (Oahu):
And this is the beach the apartment is on (Kailua Beach):
What is more fitting for me than the fact that "Aloha" means both hello and goodbye?
