Sexy in Cincy

Isn't it amazing how your life can change in just a matter of a few days?  I know that line isn't very original, but it totally fits my current situation.  I'm now a resident of Cincinnati (even though not officially I don't think as I'm having problems finding the Secretary of State to change my address), a place I had never visited before, nor knew much about.  I'm living completely alone for the first time (all the other times I had a roommate or two) and know 2 people in the whole city, besides my neighbors and my future colleagues I guess.  I've lived further away before, but it is still a bit difficult not to be able to see your family and friends on a regular basis.  I've been calling my parents every day (they're probably so sick of it right now), and ironically I feel closer to them than ever.

I never imagined how much stuff you have to purchase when you start out on your own!  It's rediculous!  Luckily, by living with my Dad I was able to save quite a bit of my MOKA earnings.  I'm feeling so spoiled right now as I now have cable TV and internet for the first time (outside of college that is, althoughI never had time to watch TV during that time anyway) and I just bought a new cell phone with the "Myfaves" plan (T-Mobile) that lets me choose 5 people to talk to anytime of day for as long as I want!  What a deal!

Anyways, enough of the boring stuff.  My apartment is no palace but it works for me, except for the trains that go by about every hour and toot their horns a million times as they pass at all hours of the night and day.  Oh, and the garage that I'm afraid to park in because it's too small of a space for my car.  I have less than a foot on each side to deal with, which sucks, so I'm not using it.  Other than that it's a nice and simple place with lots of room, two air conditioners, a gas stove, and lots of closet space.  It's on a cul-de-sac (sp) which keeps the traffic noise down but unfortunately not the trains.  The neighbors seem nice although I haven't had much opportunity to talk to them as they are in and out quite frequently.  One of them invited me to a "health and wellness" party in which we'll get facials and skin assessments.  I'm totally going to that.  I need friends!  I'm not used to not having people around.  I know, I've only been here about a week, so I guess these things take some time.  Perhaps the two people that I know in the city might be able to reccommend (sp) some good liberal churchs to go to as I guess they are quite liberal themselves.  They'll probably be in or near Hyde Park which is a part of the city that isn't exactly next door to me (I'm not sure if this paragraph is any less boring than the one previous, but this is more for my benefit than for entertainment purposes).  I'll find something I'm sure.

So I'm kind of fuming at the cable guy right now as I tried to get wireless internet the other day and they couldn't set it up (probably due to my ancient computer which I still love regardless of what other people say).  I called to cancel the service but they left the wireless modem here, so I was told that needed to be switched before they canceled my service.  Well, they were supposed to come between 8 and 11am today and guess what: they never came and it is now 11:18am.  Most people wouldn't think that is so bad, but I do, being the queen of punctuality.  I'm kind of anal that way I suppose, but I'm spending half of my day doing semi-productive things around the house when I could be trying to find the Secretary of State's office or getting my oil changed or something.  Grrr!  I'll be making a nasty phone call soon.

Well, I think this enough for now.  I'm reading an Al Franken book right now and it's hilarious.  You should check it out if you like that sort of thing.

Ciao.
