The Test

In Ohio I've learned, they don't commonly use the Secretary of State's office to deal with licensing, but offices out of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, or as we in Michigan know it, the DMV.  They are both connected somehow. Anyway, yesterday I went to one of these offices to change the address on my license.  According to Ohio law, you are supposed to change your address within 10 days of moving.  I was on the 11th day, which is totally not my fault since I couldn't find the damn office.  But no one asked me when I moved in, thank goodness.
Come to find out, that was the least of my problems.  I wait in line for a good 20 minutes and finally get up to the front.  They tell me that since I'm out-of-state that I have to take a written test.  I think, what a hassle, but it'll be a piece of cake, right?  WRONG!!!  I failed.  You have to get 30 out of 40 questions right (or 75%), and I got 5 wrong right off the bat and started crying right then and there.  I thought they were going to take away my license, which everyone now tells me is silly, but I'm a little hyped up living on my own, just waiting for something to go terribly wrong such as this.  After I fail, I go up to the counter all teary-eyed and ask them if my license will be revoked.  They're like, oh no, you're out-of-state.  You just have to take the test again, but you have to wait 24 hours to do it.  Luckily they are open on Saturday so I don't (well I hope I won't) have to deal with this on my first week of work.

Why did I fail?  The laws here are different.  For example, they asked "What is the speed limit in a school zone?"  I was like, ok, easy, 25.  WRONG!  It's 20 in Ohio, the bastards.  Who would go 20 anyway?  It's hard enough making yourself go 25.  Anywho, it was hard and unfair.  Luckily, they gave me this booklet with the Ohio laws so I could study up for the test last night.  Now I have to go in there AGAIN, do my walk of shame up to the counter and retake the test.  I'm not used to failing, so this is a horrible experience for me to say the very least.  It's probably a good thing I'm learning these laws though since I don't want to get into any trouble on the road because of my ignorance.
