September 14th: Weslaco, TX
Hi, all! I'm finally here in Texas with my parents and lil' bro' --waiting to go to Japan! I've been here since August 22nd.
Before I left I celebrated my Birthday and Anniversary packing. Sucked. But Terry sent me some flowers from the ship which was wonderful~
My coworkers, even know I had stopped working about two weeks prior, held a little going away party for me at work. Which was really, really sweet. I even got a few gifts of pink and black accessories, Sailor Moon and stuffed animals. Most of my favorite things!
Hello Kitty cake! They knew me so well, heh heh.
I will really, really miss you guys! I hope I can be so lucky in Japan with my new MWR family! XD
Also, before I left the Chiefs held a massive going away party for me and made me an Honorary Chief! (I'll show you my anchors! XD) Many friends took me to going away dinners and held little get togethers! I really can't express my gratitude and love to the friends (and bar patrons) I'm leaving behind. And also how you made it so much easier while Terry was away. I hope our friendships can continue! You never know, I might be right back in Virginia Beach again in 3 years! lol.
Oh, did I mention I had to put my Mini Cooper in storage!? It will be somewhere in the Carolinas while we're in Japan. *Sniff* I already miss it!
So here I am in Weslaco, TX. Which is a very short car drive away from the Mexican border. It really is like living in a different world here compared to VA. But the food is awesome and Budweiser flows easily, ha ha.
At the moment, though, I am stuck in a hotel. My parents home is under total construction repairs because of hurricane Dali. Leaks ruined almost every room in the house, not mention causing a huge hole in the dinning room. They've already had the roof replaced and the inside is happening right now. We'll probably be here for another 4 or 5 days...
So you bet we held our breath when Ike was on our path. But it turned thankfully! Dali, a small Cat 2, did that much damage to my parents house, can you imagine what a strong Cat 3 could do? Scary.
My date for Japan has been pushed back again, I'm expected to be there before Thanksgiving hopefully! Terry will be in Japan by the end of the month so we'll probably have more updates for you then! :D
