Japan's Beer is divided into three categories:
Beer/Biru --Beer containing 67% malt or more.
Low-malt Beer or "Happoshu" --Beer containing less than 67% malt. the taxes are cheaper, so it's cheaper for us. :D
Third-category Beers or "Happousei" --Non-malt brew. Not really a beer at all but tastes like one. Really, really cheap taxes so really, really cheap for us! XD

Terry and I have this problem as Gaijins when it comes to beer choice in the store. These near beers are not in a separate section. But, then again, they can all taste pretty good, too. Beer in Japan tends to be very mellow and creamy. Very similar to Bud or But Lt.
When it comes down to it you can't beat a oishii Name Biru. Draft beer, of course. Recession or not.
