February = Folk Alliance

Feb 11, 2012 13:17

I'll be arriving at Chicago's Union Station on Friday February 17, somewhere around 3pm. Saturday is Kharmin and Mary's Birthday Party, and I'm looking forward to playing Sunday for Jeremy's folks. I'm off that evening (8pm) to Memphis, Tennessee for Folk Alliance and a whole mess of other happenings ( Read more... )

Do do get many gigs in KCMo? The city is surprisingly folk arts centric, especially to anything celtic.

Kansas City is very surprising in many ways, and for even a stop over can be a lot of fun. First Friday's, which is exactly what it is: "On the first Friday of each month, the Crossroads Community's art galleries, studios, and restaurants open their doors to showcase local and national artists. Much like the already established First Friday’s of Phoenix and Houston, Kansas City’s version hosts a free evening of art entertainment where people gather to enjoy local and national art, the company of others, and even a free glass of wine." If you ever do think about alighting upon their soil, I would suggest contacting gryphons_hole . Besides being a tall and quite handsome bloke, he is is very much a part of the Kansas City laid back art scene. And, KC embraces it's artists. And, of course, there remains the Kansas City Irish Festival which celebrates anything Celtic, and is naturally quite full of music.

I literally "LOL'd" at the "funkiest banjo" remark :-D

Hooray for Occupy Memphis! As simultaneously an old hippie and an audio tech, I love the "human microphone" technique. (I wonder how many Occupiers have given their name as "Mike Czech"?) If I could be there, I'd be handing out Krispy Kremes and hot coffee beside you...

I hope the whole adventure is more enjoyable than unpleasant this time.
*hugs*

I only saw two videos there, and you weren't in either of them. One was a guy wo was miked so horribly badly that I couldn't make out what he was singing, and the other was dressed like Sly Stone on the 4th of July and doing some good funky blues ("O-C-C and U-P-Y - put 'em all together, we'll occupy the sky!"). If there were more than two posts in that thread, it wasn't obvious how to view the others. Looks as if it was a very successful event, both musically and politically!

Sounds like fun, dear heart. Have a great time. Sing something for me -- I'll know. Regarding keeping your schedule, etc., the offer of help still stands.
