Long night....but it's my Friday

Jul 11, 2004 04:02

Wow tonight was a long night! We only pulled one guy over with a tag that expired in NJ on 10/2002 and ended up loading him up with 3 tickets. I really don't like doing that, but my FTO says my ticket count has to be higher (he's not a traffic guy either). Then we went to that 8 year old's house from yesterday because we promised him and his little sister a police sticker. The family was shocked to see that we actually kept our promise. I think we made more of an impression on the adults than the kids because the adults are only used to seeing us when stuff goes wrong. We drove around literally for 2 hours or so looking for someone to do something worth pulling them over for, but nothing...so we decided to eat. Well after dinner all hell broke loose. First we went to take a runaway report from a Romanian lady who's 15 year old son left a note saying he wasn't coming back (but this kid loves computer games so he'll be back tomorrow when he realizes he can't play on a computer he doesn't have). She kept talking about stuff that wasn't important and we tried to hurry her up. Well after that we were stuck with a theft report which had been holding for 20 minutes. This Chinese guy (couldn't speak English well enough to consider it broken English) is moving to Alabama and is making the move himself with a couple truckloads at a time. Well he came home today and he had been cleaned out. He supplies Chinese resturaunts with equipment and he was missing a walk-in freezer and a walk-in refrigerator! These people seriously took everything! Unfortunatly he didn't keep any receipts, serial numbers, or anything...and even if he did, we couldn't understand him well enough. We passed the info along to the detectives and made a property sheet that looked something like this:

Quantity: 1 Item: TV Make: Model: Serial Number: Value: Description:
Quantity: 1 Item: DVD Player Make: Model: Serial Number: Value: Description:
Quantity: 1 Item: Camera Make: Model: Serial Number: Value: Description:

You guys get my drift. I kinda think this guy is trying to pull a fast one on us and get some insurance money because all they talked about insurance. Shit! I just realized something! His boss asked us if we were getting the detectives for insurance. Then mentioned insurance again over and over. See I guess thing is doing some good. I'll have to forward a message to the detectives when I go back on Tuesday because from the way they were acting, I think it may be fraudulant. Anyways back to the night. After trying to get that report done, there was a domestic about a boyfriend not wanting to give his girlfriend's keys back. Well we didn't respond because we had a long report to do, but then we heard the back up unit say, "Did you make contact yet...because there's someone running out the back door..." Needless to say we booked it over there and tried to find him. The boyfriend is on parole or probation (didn't catch which) and I guess thought he might go back to jail for the police being called. All they were gonna do is tell him to give his girlfriend her keys and then go back in service. Now since he ran, and still had his girlfriend's keys, the Seargant is charging him with Theft By Taking and getting his parole/probation revoked. Well after that we only had 20 minutes left in the shift and all our paperwork was just about done. We then heard what noone wants to hear 20 minutes before they're supposed to get off....traffic accident with injuries. Well there were no injuries, just one of the callers said there could be...but hey I got to run code there :P. Anyways we have to do traffic accidents on the computer for some statewide database, which takes 30 minutes longer than doing it on paper. Well needless to say we left at 0130.

Well today was my Friday so I'll post again on Tuesday and then on Wednesday I'm moving to morning watch (2230-0700) for two weeks with another FTO, so maybe I'll have some good fight/chase stories.
